Headlines tonight: I have a job, Halloween approaches and in a LiveJournal exclusive, my Uni degree results are finally revealed! All this and more coming up.
But first, the company foolish enough onto their payroll. At the start of this month, I began training at British Gas for a job in their Billing dept call-centre. 40 hrs a week over 4 days, enough money to cover most of my predicted expenses in the near future and I still haven't finished training! Should be going out onto the phones in about a week.
A week from this Wednesday is Hallowe'en/Samhain/etc and parties fall on the nearest Saturdays, but what are you all planning (both celebration-wise and fancy dress wise, if anything)? I shall be doing Zombie commis-chef to Stiggy's zombie chef, with Gabby as either zombie schoolgirl or zombie cat-girl. From what I hear, James might be doing zombie weatherman. Much fun with homemade fake blood and latex :D
And finally, after months of tension, waiting, do-overs and way more time spent in Reading than I'd spend out of choice, my degree results have been released unto me: First off, I passed! That was kind of the key thing- as long as I didn't fail, I'm happy. But I got a 2.2 (Hons), so I can now sign my name M.O. Burnett, BSc without it standing for "Bronze Swimming certificate".
Most importantly, since mid-september, Gabby has been living with me at my parents' house :D She will remain here until the end of November, then I'll be over in Texas again in April ^_^
So yeah. Good stuff.
Wooo! |

I've been thinking about sound effects tonight.
Of course, the three most iconic sound effects ever to grace paper are SNIKT, BAMF and THWIP.
Are there any sound effects that you find memorable, perfectly indicative of a particular action or just close to your heart?
Fire away. |

List seven songs you are into right now, no matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they're not any good, but they must be songs you're really enjoying now. Post these instructions in your LiveJournal along with your seven songs. Then tag seven other people to see what they're listening to
Nine Inch Nails - "Ringfinger"
Chingon - "Cherry's Dance of Death"
War - "Lowrider"
Alison Krauss & Union Station - "Down to the River to Pray"
Tito & Tarantula - "Strange Face of Love"
Rage Against the Machine - "Calm like a bomb"
DJ Earworm - "No One Takes Your Freedom" (Scissor Sisters/George Michael/Beatles/Aretha Franklin mashup)
Since I don't know who even reads these anymore, I can't really choose who to tag. Instead, I offer an open invitation to anyone actually reading this to join in the "fun". |

Here is the trailer for Spider-Man 3. It shows Green Goblin (looked green as opposed to Hobgoblin), Sandman, and a living, black substance crawling onto Peter Parker as he sleeps. It also has many shots of Spiderman in a very yummy black suit.
It's finally here. Venom will be on the big screen.
I have been waiting for this for HALF MY LIFE. Seriously. Enjoy |

I have no money in my bank account, I don't know where I'm going to live next year and I haven't had any weed in a couple of days having run out. All three of my housemates had their respective partners stay over last night and I'm sure I caught the squeak of bedsprings over my music.
But none of this bothers me.
Because it's now 7.50am and I just finished a conversation with Gabby.
Want to know how long that conversation lasted? Probably not, but I'm going to tell you anyway.
NINE HOURS
Words cannot describe how perky I am ^_^
(also, notice my smile in the LJ Icon? My current one is twice that big.)
Right. I really need the loo now. |

mood: cheerful music: Earth Loop Recall - Let Yourself

Written by Warren Ellis a few years ago:
"It occurs to me that an awful lot of trouble in Gotham City could have been averted a long time ago if Batman had just ripped the Jokers nipples off.
I mean, treatment doesnt work, does it? They stick the Joker in the nuthatch, he comes out again and does the same things.
A man with the nipples ripped off him does not make the same mistakes twice.
Criminals are a superstitious, cowardly lot, and need the nipples ripped off them.
I mean, whos going to argue?
Batman, Ive heard disturbing reports that you ripped the Jokers nipples off.
Choke on my fuck, Commissioner Gordon.
okay.
I mean, crime in Gotham City doesnt exactly seem to be affected by a man dressed as a bat flapping around the place. But no-one disobeys a man wearing a necklace of human nipples.
Im Batman isnt cutting it in the striking-fear-into-their-hearts stakes. But Im Batman and Im here for your nipples is an entirely different proposition.
Criminals would see the error of their ways after a man in a black leather pervert suit had their nipples off with the edge of a Batarang, you mark my words. Or a Bat-Denipplizer.
Im off to ring DC Comics." |

Right, I've undertaken a new project. The concept is as follows:
Project Sybian (tagline: Because Machines Need Love Too)
A mixtrack (possibly two, up to 80 mins each and spread across two CDs if necessary) specifically geared towards nookie, makin' wit' da' lurve, humping, banging, bumping uglies, making the beast with two backs, knocking boots...put simply, SEX.
The catch is, the mixtrack will be composed of music by goth/industrial/ebm/dance/synthpop artists (hence the tagline)
It'll obviously include such old favourites as VNV Nation: Cold (possibly the Mig remix...mmm porn samples), Frankie Goes to Hollywood: Relax, Nine Inch Nails (waaay too many sexy tracks to choose from) and so on.
Here's where you beautiful people come in.
I'd like this mixtrack to cover as much ground as possible, likely beyond the boundaries of my music collection, so I'd like people to suggest tracks that they feel have the right feel to be suitable for such an effort. Not necessarily explicity about sex - possibly with just the right feel to the music itself. I expect those of you who DJ (especially those who DJ certain clubs in, say, the San Francisco area...yes, Delirium, I'm looking at you) to come forward most of all, but this appeal is open to all.
There we go. Shower me with your hot, white torrents of gooey, protein-filled advice! I want it all over my face comments page! |

mood: chipper music: Icon of Coil - Down on Me
|
Right, I've hardly posted any kind of news in this thing for a while, so time for an update on recent events:
Downs Have been working shitty shifts in UCI most of the holiday so far. Had 8 hours of non-stop customers today, which was infuriating to say the least. Had to partake in some Primal Scream therapy during my break, especially after 1.5 kilos of stainless steel in the form of the magnetic lock on the staff door decided to fall off and attack one of the knuckles of my left hand.
Have been having some minor problems with anxiety and (very) occasional bouts of depression, so I may resume my course of teh happy pills (apparently they work as an anti-anxiety drug too...how convenient). Hooray for SSRIs. Unfortunately, if I do, this means no stims for me (speed or pills) since mixing fluoxetine with amphetamines can result in instant death. Bit of a scary thought, really...
Ups Despite the crappy work, I've only got 4 days of it left before chilling out for about 6 days then back to uni. Not sure if the return to Reading is an "up", but the quicker I get the ten weeks of Spring Term over, the sooner I can get to the next point...
...after having asked for nothing but money for xmas from all relatives and well-wishers plus the time I've worked in the cinema over the holidays, I now have enough money for my plane tickets to and from El Paso to see Gabby (wooooo!). This has been the thought that's kept me going through every shitty day I've had in work- I've got one goal in all this hoarding of funds and in just over three months I'm going to achieve it =^_^=
Xmas was pretty good- as mentioned above, received much money (the extra I don't spend on plane tickets will be going towards Gabby's birthday, for which I will be present, WelshStuff for her Dad (since his side of the family is Welsh way back- thus the surname Vaughan), boosting my music/DVD/video game collection and maybe some nice new clothes), the family got on pretty well despite Grandad looking for arguments (his efforts were fruitless), and much food and booze were consumed.
And finally, I've been (probationally) accepted into Newport-based industrial band Hujamaflunk as the new (read: first) vocalist after writing the lyrics and recording a vocal demo for the song 'Sikker' (available to listen and download on the MySpace page, currently instrumental). Should be going to meet Nick (currently 100% of the official band) at TJs in Newport in January when his other band, Acid Tongue play a gig there. It's odd- I never really thought of myself as much of a vocalist (let alone lyricist), but this guy's written some pretty cool tunes and I guess it helps inspire me if I can hear the music before writing the words to accompany it. |
